People often ask me, “Why the raven?” Because I relate to it.
The raven is one of the smartest beings in the sky. A watcher. A traveler. A protector of family, land, and spirit.
I’ve always wondered what a raven sees as it flies, how it reads the world from above.
During the wildfires across Alberta and British Columbia, I was talking with my son about art. I told him something that stuck with both of us:
Art isn’t just what you create. It’s why you create it. Fire is destructive, but it’s also renewal. It clears what no longer serves and makes space for regrowth.
And when the smoke settles, one of the first to return is the raven.
Resourceful - Resilient - Unshaken.
Quite some time ago my son Kane painted a fallen, partially burned totem pole and sitting on top of it, a raven. Ready to begin again. That image has stayed with me.

Because that raven represents who I am:
